“Zero Holiday Weight Gain Challenge” is an on-line challenge designed to help participants get fit by encouraging regular exercise, nutrition, and wellness tips during the upcoming holiday season. Participants will receive weekly e-communications and have access to supplemental information available on Blogs and Facebook. All participant information is kept confidential.
The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Community Service Awards.
Anyone from Hardin County may be nominated to receive these honors. A panel of judges from Alliance members will make the final decision. The recipients will be revealed Thursday, February 27, 2014 during the Alliance’s annual meeting held at Ohio Northern University’s McIntosh Center.
Selection of Citizen of the Year will be based upon an individual's outstanding achievements and contributions which have made Hardin County better.
The Ada Exempted Village School District is having Parent-Teacher conferences for students in grades K-12 on Monday, Nov. 25 from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Students will attend school on Monday, Nov. 25. There will not be school on Nov. 26 and 27. Thanksgiving break is Nov. 28 and 29.
Elementary conferences will be student-led. Parents should bring their child with them so that the student, along with his or her teacher can share information about this year’s progress. Parents had the opportunity to sign up for conference times at Open House in most cases. Reminders will be sent home.
Shook Touchstone, a long-time Construction Management joint venture team, has recently been selected to provide Construction Manager at Risk services for Apollo Career Center’s new $52.8 million renovation/addition project.
The project will be co-funded by the state (OFCC) and local share as a Vocational Facilities Assistance Program (VFAP) project. The project also has Locally Funded Initiative (LFI) scope and will include the renovation and reprogramming of the existing Apollo Career Center (including Adult Education and Construction Equipment Office Building) and the construction of new additions.
ReStore Community Center will hold its annual Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and it could use some volunteers and donations.
Donations of food, drinks, and paper products are needed. Volunteers are needed to prepare food, set up and tear down. Click on the link below to see a full listing of what is needed to make this a successful event.

New Leaf Garden Center, 0395 State Route 235, Ada, will hold its Christmas open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16.
Open house specials include drawings for $25 gift certificates.
A Christmas decorating demonstration takes place at the Ada store from 10 a.m. to noon. Then, it is repeated at the Kenton store from 1 to 3 p.m.
