ADA - The Ada High School girls basketball team lost 58-15 to visiting McComb in a Blanchard Valley Conference bout Thursday evening, January 23.

The decisive defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 2-14 overall and 0-8 in BVC action. 

McComb improved to 14-3 overall and 7-1 in BVC play after the lopsided win. The Panthers are second in the 11-team BVC behind Riverdale (8-0), and they are tied with Liberty-Benton (7-1). 

“We really struggled against their 1-3-1 zone defense,” said Bulldog third-year head coach Zach Ricker. “It is the first 1-3-1 we have seen all year, you don’t see it much anymore.”

RIDGEWAY - The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team rallied late but lost a 41-39 nailbiter to Hardin County rival Ridgemont on a very cold Monday evening, January 20.

The tough non-conference road defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 2-13. The Gopher girls improved to 4-8 with the seesaw victory.

Ridgemont jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Anna Conley fed Brooklynn Andreasen for the first Bulldog basket on a layup at the 3:18 mark to pull within 6-2.

The Gophers scored two driving field goals to make it 10-2. Andreasen swished a lane shot and Ada edged within 10-6 after the opening stanza.

NORTH ROBINSON – The Ada High School swim teams competed well at the 11-team North Central Ohio Swim League championship meet hosted by Colonel Crawford on January 18, finishing fourth at the annual event.

Perennial power Colonel Crawford swept to the boys, girls and combined team titles. Ada finished a solid fourth in all three standings.

The CC girls have won nine straight league championships. The Eagle boys have won three of the last five NCOSL crowns.

DOLA – Free throws don’t usually make TV highlight shows, but they often decide close games.

The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team nipped county rival Hardin Northern 44-41 by sinking three free throws in the final seconds Saturday night.

Bulldog sophomore Carson Conley broke a 41-41 tie by hitting the second of two foul shots with 2.5 seconds left.

ADA __The Ada High School boys basketball team lost a tough defensive battle 48-40 to visiting Van Buren in a Blanchard Valley Conference contest on January 17.

The Bulldogs fell to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the BVC after the hard-fought defeat. Van Buren improved to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in BVC play with the win.

VB turned the game around with a decisive 16-6 third period. Ada played hard but the Black Knights took advantage of 22 Bulldog turnovers and poor Ada three-point shooting to win.
