AHS Homecoming brings Delphos Jeff to town
By Cort Reynolds
The Ada High School football team returns home after two straight road games to entertain Delphos Jefferson on Homecoming Friday, September 23.
Delphos Jeff enters the contest 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Northwest Conference play. The Wildcats beat a previously 3-1 Crestview squad 21-7 last Friday in Delphos.
DJ lost its NWC opener at Columbus Grove, 38-6.
"They have a high-powered offense," said Ada head coach Toby Smith about the Wildcats. "They do a lot of RPO (run pass option) stuff, and if we are not where we are supposed to be, they will make you look foolish.
"Defensively, we have to wrap up and be where we are supposed to be on our assignments."
Smith noted that even though DJ graduated a talented quarterback in Colin Bailey, his replacement is playing pretty well.
The Wildcats average 26.2 points per game and permit 29.6 ppg. Ada scores 19.6 ppg and allows 36.8 ppg. DJ's five opponents are a combined 11-14 this season, while Ada's opposition has a combined record of 19-6.
"On defense, they are similar to Bluffton," Smith said. "They mix it up and play with a lot of aggression. They are pretty athletic."
The Bulldogs are 1-4 (0-2 NWC). Ada is 1-2 at home, while DJ is 1-2 on the road.
Ada is rated 20th in the Div. VII, Region 26 computer rankings, while Delphos Jeff is ranked 16th.
"We are still trying to fix us," Smith added.
