ONU sophomore Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich.) has been named the Women's Tennis Ohio Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week.

The sophomore earned the honor for the first time in her career.

Latala led the way for ONU last week, posting a perfect 3-0 record at No. 3 singles and going 2-1 record in doubles play at No. 1 doubles.

In ONU's only loss of the week, Latala led the way at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

ONU freshman Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) has been named the Men's Tennis Ohio Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 26.

The freshman posted a perfect 4-0 record in singles play during the week and was 2-2 in doubles play at No. 1 doubles on his way to earning his first career OAC Athlete of the Week nod.

Do was perfect against Albion (Mich.), Franciscan and Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) at No. 2 singles and won at No. 3 singles in Northern's contest against Olivet (Mich.).

ONU sophomore Cameron Marous (Brecksville) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Northern's 3-0 start to the 2018 season.

The sophomore earned the honor for the first time this season and the second time in his career.

Marous guided ONU to perfect 3-0 record to open the 2018 season.

Marous had Hat Tricks in all three games, including 4-goal games against Calvin (Mich.) and Washington & Jefferson (Pa.). He also led the team with 5 assists.

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Monday afternoon as it was left out of the NCAA Div. III women’s basketball tournament.

The Polar Bears (23-5 overall) end their season as the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season champions for the fourth consecutive season and the fifth season in the last six years under 17th-year head coach Michele Durand.

Marietta, who defeated Northern in the OAC tourney championship game of Saturday, will be the lone representative for the conference in this season's tournament.

LIMA - Ada senior Chase Sumner took second in the 145 lbs. bracket to pace the Bulldog matmen at the Div. III Lima sectionals hosted by LCC Friday and Saturday.

 

Sumner clinched his fourth straight district tournament berth with his showing. After a bye, Sumner pinned Kyle Martin of Cory-Rawson in the quarterfinals Friday at 1:50.

 

On Saturday, he pinned Brent Siefker of Ottawa-Glandorf at 1:12 in the semifinals.

 

But in the finals, LCC's Joey Caprella registered a 12-3 decision over Sumner to win the bracket title. Sumner now advances to the district competition at Troy next weekend.

CANTON - Ada sophomore Klava Katayama finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle finals of the 42nd annual Ohio Div. II girls state swim meet at Canton's C.T. Branin Natatorium Friday evening.

Katayama swam the 50-yard free B finals in a time of 24.71, finishing eighth in the B finals heat. The top eight from the prelims Thursday competed in the eight-swimmer A Finals.

"We're both pretty happy that she made it back to the finals for the first time," said Ada head coach Tanner Holke. Katayama took 17th at state in the freestyle last year.
