BUCYRUS - The Ada boys swim team finished a solid fourth out of 12 teams and set several records at the Eagle Sprint Meet hosted by Colonel Crawford Saturday.
Ada posted six first-place finishes, five of which were meet records. Seniors Andrew Ross and Andrew Robey, junior Zach Beaschler and freshmen Klava Katayama and Isaac Spar set meet records for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs did well despite having just four swimmers from each of the boys and girls squads able to compete. Two second-place Ada finishes also eclipsed previous meet marks.
The visiting Ada girls basketball team hit a late dry spell and fell 45-35 at Northwest Conference foe Spencerville Thursday evening.
Following the defeat, the Lady Bulldog record dropped to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in the league. Meanwhile, the Lady Bearcats improved to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the NWC with the victory.
The low-scoring game was tied 18-18 at the half, and Spencerville edged in front 29-27 after three periods. They then put the game out of reach with a 16-8 fourth quarter.
"We shot poorly," said Bulldog third-year head coach Bill Taflinger. "We couldn't make a shot when we had a chance to extend our lead."
No. 20-ranked Ohio Northern posted a 22-20 victory over Springfield (Mass.) and a 26-12 victory over Oswego State (N.Y.) and finished 2-1 in pool play of the Lycoming (Pa.) Invitational on Friday at Lamade Gymnasium.
ADA - In the annual renewal of their local rivalry battle, visiting USV rode a 26-10 second period to a 63-48 victory over the Ada boys basketball team before a big Saturday night crowd.
The Bulldogs fell to 2-9 overall with the non-conference loss, while the Rams improved to 9-3 with the win.
"We got off to a good start, but the second quarter was the story of the game," said Ada first-year head coach Dre White. "We had three good quarters, yet we had way too many turnovers (19). We have to clean up the offensive boards and the turnovers."
