Library bids opened
By Monty Siekerman
Ada Public Library received bids Thursday for its proposed addition and renovation from companies in Columbus, Sidney, and Kalida.
The board will consider choosing one or none at its next board meeting or at a specially called meeting.
The engineer's estimate of the base bid was $770,000. Base bids were:
• $770,000 from LeVeck, Columbus
• $897,000 from Westerheide Construction, Sidney
• $937,000 from Schimmoeller, Kalida
Although LeVeck was the lowest base bid and met the engineer's estimate, the company, in most cases, was higher on alternates. Alternates included sidewalk, door infill, electrostatic paint, refinish shelf ends, and exterior logo sign.
The board, at a public meeting, will consider accepting or rejecting a base bid and any of the five alternates.
Although architectural drawings were available at the public library when bids were opened on Thursday, they were not made available to the Icon.
Several years ago, the library purchased the old Masonic Lodge building, tore down the structure, and awaited the time when an addition could be built. If bids are accepted, the green grass on the corner will be turned into expanded services for library patrons.
The building improvement in Ada will include not only an addition, but also renovation of the existing facility: more meeting and activity area, expanded storage, updated heating and air-conditioning are several factors involved.
