Here's the Hootenannies 4-H Club report
By Reporter, Faith Holbrook
The Hootenannies 4-H Club meeting was opened at the Ag Credit meeting room by our new president, Laura Spradlin. Dylan Beiler led the American Flag Pledge and Faith Holbrook led the 4-H Pledge. Secretary Miranda Holbrook had roll call and found 13 members present.
Old business: We talked about doing Star Spangled Foods as a group project. Parents, April Holbrook and Amanda Cromer will help the members with this. The group felt this will be fun to learn about the customs and traditions that influence some of our American foods, while using what we fix as our refreshments at the meetings too.
We also discussed further about the Goat Clinic that Advisor Grant Mizek and parent, Earnie Davis will head up. They are looking at June 29 as a possiblity and will get the info to other 4-H clubs in the county as well as the FFA chapters that may have goat projects to help members learn more about raising, caring for, and showing goats. Stations will include things like clipping, trimming hooves, worming and shots, showmanship and such. More on this to come!
We talked about community services we would like to do as a club. There is a Kids Triathalon Race at the YMCA here in Kenton on July 27. Parent, Kriss Brien is heading that and they need helpers, so we voted to help as a club.
We also wanted to donate our help to plant a tree on the Ag Credit grounds. It was a thank you for letting us meet in their nice facility. We wanted to do this for Earth Day, but the weather wasn't good, so we will plant the tree when the landscaper lets us know what day will be best.
Another community service was discussed to be done anonymously as a true service.
We paid our dues. If any members did not pay yet, they need to have that in at the next meeting.
New business: We talked about our club T-shirts and the group voted to do tie-dye again since we had so much fun last year doing that. Parent, Gretchen Beiler will help with that.
Project books will be handed out at the next meeting. The club will pay for the T-shirts and books.
We had a sign up for hosting meetings in June-August at member's homes.
Health and Safety Reports were next. Faith Holbrook presented Goat Safety for the goat and person working with the goats while getting ready to show at the fair. Miranda Holbrook talked about goat pen safety and comfort for the animals during the year.
Miranda brought a fruit and cheese and vegetable trays and Seth Davis brought the drinks.
Our next meeting will be at the Ag Credit meeting room on Sunday, May 5, at 4 p.m. Advisor Melissa Rofe will be in charge of the mandatory Quality Assurance each exhibitor of animals must go through in order to show at the fair.
Landyn Hijma will bring refreshments and Megan Williams will have the drinks.
