AHS Soccer: Girls drown Columbian; boys' game postponed
By Cort Reynolds
The Ada High School boys soccer game vs. Tiffin Columbian was cancelled after a weather long delay on Saturday evening. They will entertain New Knoxville Monday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
After a long weather delay, the Ada High School girls soccer team bested Tiffin Columbian 4-1 under the lights on the wet turf of War Memorial Park Stadium Park on Saturday, August 20.
The team improved to 2-0 with the impressive win. They have outscored their opposition 13-1 so far this season.
"We played a very good Tiffin team," said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. "Last year's game was a 7-0 Ada win and this Tiffin team was vastly improved.
"We had to fight for every ball and we were tested more this game than we have been so far," he continued. "The girls responded well and kept fighting hard for 80 minutes.
"This is even more significant considering we had a 2.5 hour delay for lightning."
The Bulldog girls broke on top early after narrowly missing on some good scoring opportunities.
Ella Marshall stole a pass deep in TC territory and scored from about 12 yards out on the right side to put Ada on top 1-0 at the 27:36 mark of half one.
Just 47 seconds later, freshman Karlie Rockhill knocked one in from the left side off the post for a 2-0 lead.
Later in the half, Marshall dribbled through the backline, put on a few good moves and scored easily to build the advantage to 3-0.
Early in the second half, sophomore Lexi Poling netted a left side goal with 36:54 left to play for a 4-0 lead.
TC scored its lone goal to cut the deficit to three, but that was as close as they would get.
Sophomore Karley Wagner and junior Olivia Burkhart each passed out one assist. Junior keeper Katie Sizemore made 18 stops in goal.
"We had some great efforts by Karmen Hall in the offense stepping hard to every ball she could," Dewese noted. "Emma Lambdin had an excellent defensive effort as well.
"Katie Sizemore continues to get better in the net every game and she earned all 18 saves," he continued.
"All in all, it was a great game with great effort and a good springboard for a very difficult Monday night contest at Coldwater," he summed up.
Ada (1-0 road) tries to stay unbeaten when it plays at Coldwater Monday, August 22 at 6 p.m.
