Autumnal Equinox open house at ONU Observatory
The ONU Observatory will host its second astronomy public event for the fall semester this Friday:
The Autumnal Equinox
8:30-10:30 p.m., September 22
ONU Observatory, 800 W. Lincoln Ave.
The public is invited to drop by the ONU Observatory between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. for an autumnal equinox star party. The autumnal equinox is the start of fall and it officially happens on September 23 at 2:50 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Organizers note, "the event is called an "equinox" because the length of the daytime hours are about equal to the length of the nighttime hours. This also happens to be a few days after the opposition of Neptune, so it will be optimized for telescopic viewing.
"Finally, Saturn and the 1st quarter Moon will appear truly impressive in the eyepiece!
"In the unlikely event of cancellation, a message will appear in red before 2:30 pmon the day of the event on the Public Events web page:
https://jpastro.net/astro/publicevents.html
"The forecast as of 9/19 is for 35% cloudcover, which is an acceptable
amount of interference for a public event--especially since the bright
Moon will be an easy target."
