MLK visited Ohio Northern 56 years ago

From ONU.edu

As our nation prepares to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, we commemorate the 56th anniversary of Dr. King’s speech at Ohio Northern on Jan. 11, 1968.

“Somewhere we must come to see that human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and the persistent work of dedicated individuals who are willing to be co-workers with God. Without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the primitive forces of social stagnation. So, it is necessary to help time and to realize that the time is always ripe to do right.”—Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King spoke to a capacity crowd in Taft Memorial Gymnasium, less than three months before he was assassinated. He urged those in attendance to not sit idly by, but to do their part to combat injustice and evil in the world.
