Jeff Fries, age 68, of Worthington, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the family that was his greatest pride and joy.

Born on November 1, 1957, in Sidney, Ohio, Jeff spent most of his youth in New Knoxville, Ohio and his high school years in Ada. He grew up with a natural talent for athletics and a heart for service. To the community of Ada, he will forever be remembered for his legendary basketball career at Ada High School. A 1976 graduate, Jeff’s unselfish play led to 602 career assists and a 21-assist game that remains among the best in Ohio high school history. He was a scholar-athlete at both Ada High School and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University and was recently named to the Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame.  While he was a standout on the court, Jeff’s most meaningful "assists" began long after his playing days ended.

Jeff recently retired from George J Igel Co after 32 years of hard work and dedication. 

Jeff’s life was defined by a 50-year love story with his high school sweetheart and lifelong teammate, Debbie. Together, they built a life rooted in family, humor, and an unwavering devotion to one another. Their home was a sanctuary for many, known for legendary Fourth of July parties and an open-door policy where friends of their children were treated like family.

A man of quiet strength, Jeff found his greatest fulfillment in being a Husband, Dad, and Papa. The fact that his children chose to raise their own families within a quarter-mile of his home is the truest testament to the love, presence, and support he provided throughout his life. Whether he was cheering from the stands at his grandkids' games or making final, precious memories on a special family trip to Disney World, Jeff’s legacy is his family’s closeness.

He is survived by “12 Strong,” his beloved wife, Debbie; his children, Brittney (Karol) and TJ (Jennifer), and his cherished grandchildren, Liv (13), Max (10), Ruby (4), George(10), Henry(8), and Eleanor (4), who were the light of his life. His parents Carl Eugene and Velma Fries. Siblings Peg(Doug) Weimer, Doug( Tina) Fries, Holly (Marc) Pinchouck. He also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.

Jeff lived as an example of what a good man should be—selfless, loyal, and kind. Though he will be missed more than words can express, his family finds comfort in their faith and the promise that this is not goodbye, but simply, “We’ll see you later.”

Visitation will be held at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N High Street, Worthington, OH 43085, US, on May 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Memorial Service will take place at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N High Street, Worthington, OH 43085, US, on May 20, 2026, from 12:00  p.m. to 2:00  p.m.
