Show up at Bob and Janet Crawford's front door

By Monty Siekerman
Bob and Janet Crawford had unexpected visitors at their front door on East North Avenue this week: two cecropia.

The beautiful moths hatched from a cocoon not far away. Janet shared the photos of her "find" with the Ada Icon.

CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS BELOW -

A year and a half ago, large cecropia caterpillars were found on the buckhorn plants in front of Liberty National Bank. See the photos (below) of the caterpillars that Monty Siekerman photographed in August of 2015.

Cecropia Moth (Hyalophora cecropia) is North America's largest moth with a wingspan of 5-6 inches.

Placed second at district semis

Ada High School athlete Zach Beaschler qualified for state tennis competition by placing second on Saturday at the district semifinals at Bowling Green State University.

At the district, Beaschler defeated Shawnee's Jackson Schafer before losing to Tyler Gargas of Ottawa Hills.

The state tournament will be held Friday at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason.

When Ohio Northern University launched the “Campaign for Engineering: Building Impact at ONU,” 1972 engineering graduate Charles “Chris” Claypool, and his wife, Barbara, didn’t hesitate to make a lead gift to help get the initiative off the ground. After all, as a member of the team that completed a campaign feasibility study for ONU’s College of Engineering, Chris knew exactly how much support was needed.

Over the past four decades, Claypool has grown Claypool Electric Inc., the Lancaster, Ohio, company that his father founded in 1954, into a firm that employs more than 200 people.

Roger Moore was never my favorite James Bond. I mean, Sean Connery, come on. Nobody’s “Bond, James Bond,” like the Scot.

Never mind. When James Bond dies – even if it is Roger Moore - my thoughts go flashing back again to…Goldfinger.

The first time I saw James Bond was in the Carma Theatre with a bunch of the boys…Kent Kinsinger, John Lehman, probably Max Eastman. Maybe Larry Eikenbary. We were, I believe, freshmen on bicycles.

From Lima Memorial Health Systems for action taken in October 2016

Ada-Liberty EMS received the 2017 Medical Run of the Year Award presented by Lima Memorial Health Systems earlier this week.

Members Jennifer McCombs, Kortni Rooker, Dot Jordan along with Ada patrolman John Iten responded to a patient in cardiac arrest on Oct 3, 2016.

As a team, they managed to treat and transport the patient to Lima Memorial.

The patient is living today with no deficits. Each member respectfully received this award and all would say they were just "doing their job."
