On March 3, the Village of Ada Council approved the display of banners with photos of students graduating from Ada High School on Main St. light poles. New council members learned that it is the responsibility of the Senior Class to formally request permission from the Village.
The following letter was part of the Council packet.
My name is Lydia Demascio and I am a senior at Ada High School and the class secretary for the graduating class of 2026. My fellow class officers and I are reaching out to ask for your support to continue the senior banner tradition.

The phrase “say cheese” for photos appears in newspaper articles starting in the 1940s. In 1943, the Oxford English Dictionary cites the phrase being repeated by Joseph E. Davies, who was the United States ambassador (1936-1938) to the Soviet Union and appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Prior to “saying cheese” other words such as prunes, whiskey, and cheese with crackers were used by photographers to get you to smile.
