Ohio Northern University’s Gamma Lamda chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, the international honorary society for professions in technology, received the Region 3 Chapter of the Year award during the William E. Warner Awards Program at the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association conference in Columbus, Ohio, on March 8.

This marks the second consecutive year the Gamma Lambda Chapter has been recognized as the top chapter in Region 3, which covers Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Ontario, Canada. The group has garnered this recognition six out of the last 10 years.

In addition to the chapter award, Sheena Marston, a junior construction management major from Jamaica, received the undergraduate student essay award for a selected essay on the meaning and significance of any one of the three precepts of Epsilon Pi Tau: Texnikh (technical competence), Pragmateia (social and professional proficiency) and Exetasis (research).

Only one essay per student is accepted each year. Judging of the essay is based upon clarity of thought and presentation, including organization, language usage, documentation and importance to the profession.

“We are very proud of the chapter’s accomplishment and their ability to be recognized as one of the best in the region,” said David Rouch, professor and chair of the Department of Technological Studies. “The award Marston received is quite impressive, and she exemplifies what we look for in our students.”

Trustees of the ONU Gamma Lamda chapter are Rouch, Richard Miller, instructor of technology, and Feng Jao, associate professor of technology.

Current student leaders of the chapter include Nathan Evans, senior manufacturing technology from Westerville, Ohio, Kyle Raber, senior manufacturing technology major from Wooster, Ohio, Taylor Kuhlman, senior construction management major from Ottawa, Ohio, and Zach Freer, senior technology education major from Ashland, Ohio.

The mission of the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau is to build leaders through service activities, promote scholarship, and inspire excellence in the university, community and technological world.

The chapter is committed to using the highest aspirations to craft a chapter that maintains and promotes high standards, honor and duty to those who are involved in the technology profession.
