An Ada High School sophomore's veggie garden
Story and photo by Jimmy Wilson
"Today’s featured Ada Icon Veggie Garden belongs to Wyliam Bowden of North Main Street.
A sophomore in Ada Exempted Village Schools, Wyliam’s love of plants prompted him to commandeer an unused section of his family’s yard along the back alley for his garden.
He improved the soil by adding coconut fiber, peat moss, sand, expanded pumice, and perlite. Wyliam carries bucket of water to his garden each day, where he grows, potatoes, carrots, watermelon, hot peppers, and other types of produce.
Thinking about transforming a section of underutilized land on your property to a garden? Wyliam may have some experience that would help you.
The Ada Icon Veggie Gardens highlight vegetable gardens in the Ada area as a way of promoting self-sufficiency and agriculture education.
