ONU removal of law professor from classroom sparks opinions in national media
Disciplinary hearing delayed by restraining order
By Paula Scott
Ohio Northern University law professor Scott Gerber was removed from his classroom at the end of the Spring semester, an action which has been the subject of opinion pieces in national media outlets including a May 9 Wall Street Journal piece by Gerber.
The articles indicate the university told the law professor that the grounds for removal is a lack of collegiality. Gerber asserts that his removal is because of his criticism of the university’s DEI policies (diversity, equity, inclusion).
In local coverage, the July 8 Kenton Times reported that Gerber was granted a restraining order against the university by the Hardin County Court. The order prevents the university from holding a disciplinary hearing on July 10 and continuing through July 20.
Gerber has been employed as an ONU law faculty member since 2001.
