Letter: Liberty Township trustees ask voters to support replacement levy
Liberty Township Residents,
The upcoming May election has the 2nd request for approval of a 1 mill replacement levy for operating expense for Liberty Township. Our main expenses deal with the upkeep and maintenance of 6 cemeteries totaling 27 acres and 23 miles of township roads. This levy would generate an additional $30, 015 for the township.
Recent expenditures on roads include the widening and resurfacing of TR 35 between CR 50 and CR 60. This one mile stretch of road had a vehicle count of over 1,800 per day. Total cost of the project exceeded $162,000 of which township share was $80,000, the balance being covered by grant money. Recent updates from a 2009 model to a 2022 roadside mower resulted in a cost of $40,000. An update to the snowplow for the large truck is necessary for this upcoming year due to obsolete parts availability and excess wear on an outdated snowplow. This expense is projected at $15,000 for distribution after any other corrections.
As you can see operating costs add up, we are conservative in our spending, but it is necessary to maintain safe, reliable equipment to keep our roads and cemeteries up to safe standards for all in the township.
We would appreciate your vote to approve this levy on the May 6th ballot.
