Daniel “Dan” Altstaetter was a Vietnam War veteran

Daniel “Dan” Altstaetter, 77, passed away on November 28, 2024 at the Dayton VA Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1947 in Allen County to Harold and Louise (Lamb) Altstaetter who preceded him in death. On August 15, 1993 he married Lucinda Barron who survives in Ada.

Dan was a Vietnam War veteran serving with the 101st Airborne Division and with the 265th Radio Research Company. He was proud to be a Screamin Eagle! Dan was the owner of Design Associates in Ada, Ohio and was also the manager of H & L Trust Company. He was the past vice-president of Sons of the American Revolution, Findlay Ohio. Dan enjoyed golf, scuba diving, woodworking and playing the trumpet.  He was also a farmer and a member of the Lima Area Concert Band.

Paul David Patton was a Special Olympics competitor

Paul David Patton, age 57, of Kenton, was born on October 26, 1967, Paul R. and Judith Patton.  He passed away on November 26, 2024 at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.  

David is survived by his two siblings: Lisa (Alan) Long of Kenton, and Gregory Patton of Elida. He is the beloved uncle to Kyle, Ashley, Emily and Shane. He is preceded in death by his father and his long-term girlfriend, Phoebe Holloway. David was a great son, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He was an innocent, gentle soul who faced all adversity with a grace that most men cannot aspire. David never knew a stranger and he could start a conversation with a, “Hey, can I ask you a question?”.    

Robert Cornwell, Sr. worked for Lima City Schools

Robert Cornwell, Sr., age 77, of Lima, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at his residence, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on July 10, 1947 in Lima, Ohio to the late Kinnard and Lottie Cornwell. Robert was previously married to Charlene Zeisloft and she preceded him in death.   

Robert is survived by his children, Robert Cornwell, Jr. of Ft. Wayne, IN, Diana (Dustin) Akers of Lima, Susan (James) Francis of Lima, and Melissa Cornwell of Lima: thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Sanders of Columbus. 

He was preceded in death by his two grandchildren: Cirra Cornwell and Scott Cornwell; and three sisters. 

Obituary for Monie D. Pitts

Monie D. Pitts was born September 12, 1923 at Lick Branch on the Middle Fork of Licking River near Fritz in Magoffin County, KY.  She was the 12th of 15 children born to Amy (1886-1972) (Dyer) and Dennis (1883-1928) Dyer. Monie was the only living child from that union.  Monie left this world at age 101 to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ, November 23, 2024 while a resident of Vancrest of Ada.

Monie married Hearl Pitts (1919-2007) in St. Joseph, MI and they have four children: Jimmie A. Pitts of Sidney; Eugene (Brenda) Pitts of Maumee; Carolyn Annette Shepherd of Lima and Phyllis Miller of Lima.  Monie and the family moved to Hardin County in Ohio after the end of WWII in 1945.

Gerald G. Rayl was a tool maker

Gerald G. Rayl, age 86, of Ada, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Lima Memorial Health System. 

He was born on April 20, 1938 in Hicksville, Ohio to the late Charles I. and Kathryn C. (Businger) Rayl. On June 15, 1957 Gerald married Dorothy Marie Ackerman; she preceded him in death on February 24, 2021.

Gerald is survived by his two sons and daughter: Kevin (Karen) Rayl, Rodney (Wendy) Rayl and Rebecca Rayl all of Ada; and three grandchildren: Andrew (Tessa) Rayl, Jacob Rayl and Eli Esguerra; and three brothers: Wallace (Jean) Rayl of Cheyenne, WY, Jerry (Alta) Rayl of Ada, and Charles (Jan) Rayl of Lima 

Derwin Jay “DJ” Winegardner was a truck driver

Derwin Jay “DJ” Winegardner, age 64, of Ada, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at his residence. 

He was born to the late Larry L. and Twyla Sue (Mulholland) Winegardner on April 4, 1960. 

DJ is survived by his three siblings: Mark Winegardner of Harrod, Brian Winegardner of Ada and Sonya Winegardner of Ada.

He was preceded in death by his niece, Taryn Winegardner. 

DJ was a truck driver.  He was a U.S. Army veteran. 

A private family burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Roundhead Cemetery.
