On Saturday, October 10, the World Ultralight Fly-In (WUFI) will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the first worldwide ultralight and open air synchronized flying event of its kind.

The Ada airport will be putting four open air aircraft up to aid in attempting a world record, according to Kevin Mierzejewski of the airport.

The event, put together by prominent European and US ultralight pilots is being orchestrated globally in conjunction with Dayton Ultralights and members of numerous Facebook groups and clubs around the world.

Ada tradition reignited – after an almost 20-year lapse. Several hundred Bulldog students, faculty and fans showed up Wednesday night for a rousing homecoming bonfire held in the practice field at the high school.

The students danced and sang and texted to the music of YMCA by The Village People – can you believe that!

The cheerleaders and homecoming court performed several skits for the football team.

The Ada faculty, who were instrumental in bringing back the event, provided donuts, popcorn and drinks.

It's a mini mall of sorts. Six new businesses celebrated a grand opening Saturday afternoon at 4171 State Route 235, just north of Dollar General.

No department stores, restaurants, or shoe stores are located in this "mall" but you'll find much there.

Things get crazy during homecoming week in Ada.

First there's pajama day, then crazy hair and hat day. That's followed by twins day, formal dress day (can you believe that!). It all ends with spirit wear day.

The homecoming kickoff was a Sunday evening community pep rally at War Memorial Stadium. The Icon attended and shares these photos, taken by Monty Siekerman, with viewers:

• Pineapple upside down cakes were offered to pep rally goers. Eda Tanriverde, an exchange student from Turkey, displays desserts for those who have a sweet tooth.

• Ada High School flags perform.

A community pep rally, part of Ada High School homecoming, is set for 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4.

The rally, open to the public, takes place in the Ada War Memorial Park.

Team members will wear uniform tops. Admission is $2 adults and $1 for students. This pays your way into the powerpuff game directly following the rally.
