ADA - Despite a hiccup in set two, the Ada volleyball team swept visiting backyard rival Upper Scioto Valley in straight sets on a warm Tuesday evening.
The Lady Bulldog spikers improved to 3-1 by winning the non-league match 25-12, 25-21, 25-6. USV fell to 0-1 after losing their first match.
"We are focusing on eliminating errors," said new Ada head coach Kyleigh Tabor. "We made 15 errors in the second set, but only four in the third.
"We can't win games if we don't take care of the ball and clean up our game. But we covered on defense well, did well in serve receive and served aggressively," she added.
ST. HENRY - The Ada volleyball team lost at perennial power St. Henry Monday evening in four tough sets.
After suffering their first defeat of the young season, the Lady Bulldog spikers are now 2-1.
Ada won the first set 25-23, but then lost the next three by a 25-16, 25-8, 25-10 count.
"This is the first year that we have taken a set from St. Henry," said new head coach Kyleigh Tabor. "I’m extremely proud of how hard the girls worked; we had great defense and hustle. The girls never gave up and fought throughout the match."
Junior setter Sidney Gossard led the team in assists with 20, and she served three aces to go with five digs.
The Ohio Northern volleyball program enters the 2018 season under 28th-year head coach Kate Witte with high expectations for continued success on the conference and national stages. The team is ranked 19th in the nation.
Coach Witte and her staff will welcome back 12 varsity letter winners and 15 total returning athletes. This year's roster will also feature five incoming freshman. None are from Ada or neighboring schools.
The Ada volleyball team won its season-opening matches in a triangular bout with non-league local rivals Waynesfield and Cory-Rawson Saturday.
Ada rolled over Waynesfield Goshen 25-2, 25-11. Junior setter
Sidney Gossard served 13 aces, dished out 12 assists and made seven digs to pace the victors.
Sophomore middle Megan Light knocked down 10 kills and added one block. Senior Morgan Swick contributed five digs in the blowout win.
In the match against Cory-Rawson, Ada had to rally to pull out a three-set victory by a 25-27, 29-27, 25-4 count. After losing a very close first game, Ada trailed 5-0 in set two.
