Gabrielle Metzner named OAC women's runner of the week

Sophomore Gabrielle Metzner has been named OAC women's runner of the week.

At the Kenyon Invitational on Saturday, Metzner notched two top-three finishes to lead the Polar Bears to a fifth place finish.

Metzner finished second in the 200-meter dash, posting a time off 27.90 seconds.

She also notched a third place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.63 seconds.

Ohio Northern will return to action on Friday and Saturday, when it competes at the OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Mount Union.

Women's tennis runs OAC regular season win streak to 25 matches with 7-2 victory at Baldwin Wallace

The Ohio Northern women's tennis team ran its Ohio Athletic Conference regular season winning streak to 25 matches and moved closer to its third consecutive OAC Regular Season title with a 7-2 victory at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday.

The Polar Bears improve to 21-4 overall and are 7-0 in OAC action, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-9, 4-2.

ONU would clinch at least a share of their third consecutive OAC crown and the No. 1 seed in the 2013 OAC Tournament with a victory in either of its two final matches, either at Capital on Tuesday or at home with Muskingum on Saturday, April 27.

Sheridan's 2-run home run helps softball split OAC double header at Baldwin Wallace

Sophomore Kelly Sheridan drilled a 2-run home run to lead Ohio Northern to an Ohio Athletic Conference softball double header split at Baldwin Wallace Sunday afternoon at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.

The Polar Bears (9-11 overall, 8-6 OAC) won the opener 11-6 and the Yellow Jackets (19-15, 4-8) won the nightcap 9-0.

Sheridan's 2-run home run in the top of the first staked ONU to a quick 2-0 lead in Game 1.

BW grabbed a 3-2 lead with single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, but Northern answered with a 4-run fifth frame.

Freshman Anne Dreher hits pair of home runs as softball splits OAC double header with Wilmington

Freshman Anne Dreher ripped a pair of home runs to lead Ohio Northern to a split with Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference softball double header Thursday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.

WC won the opener 5-3 and ONU took the nightcap 9-3.

The Polar Bears move to 8-10 overall and 7-5 in OAC action, while the Quakers move to 19-9, 5-7.

Dreher hit two solo home runs, her third and fourth of the season, in Game 2 as ONU salvaged the split and remained in fourth place in the OAC.

Northern sent 10 batters to the plate in a 6-run second inning to take a 6-2 lead.

Reed Allen leads baseball in OAC double header sweep at Wilmington

Freshman Reed Allen went 4-for-7 on the day to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a double header sweep of Wilmington on Thursday afternoon at Tewksbury-Delaney Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 14-15 and 5-7 in OAC play, while the Quakers drop to 4-25, 1-11.

ONU captured Game 1 11-4 and won Game 2 15-4.

Allen scored four times and also drove in three runners.

In the first game, Allen led off with a single and moved to second on a walk by freshman Grant Wilson.

After an out, sophomore Dan Belliveau singled, scoring Allen and giving ONU a 1-0 advantage.

Cory Martin records 100th career hit for ONU

Senior Cory Martin recorded his 100th career hit and the Ohio Northern baseball team turned a triple play in a double header split at Heidelberg on Sunday at Peaceful Valley Field.

The Polar Bears are now 12-13 on the season and 3-5 in OAC play, while the Student Princes fall to 13-15, 3-5.

In Game 2, Martin ripped a double down the left field line to tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning for his milestone hit.

He is the 56th player in ONU baseball history to reach 100 career hits.

Northern also turned a triple play in the third inning.
