Under gray November skies for the past two days, Tom Lehman has been placing many America flags near the goalposts of the football field at War Memorial Park.

Incredibly, each flag represents one thousand U.S. men and women who have died in military service over the years to protect our freedoms. He does this now because of the upcoming Veterans Day and the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I in recognition of the many Americans who gave their all.

This is the first time for such a flag display in Ada, which is undertaken by the Ada American Legion Post #185. Tom, vice commander of the local post, has been active in the Legion and Boy Scouts for many years.

Anyone interested in having one or more flags may come to the stadium and take them on Tuesday, Nov. 13, when the display will be taken down.

As a side note, the howitzer, in the background, was refurbished by one of Tom’s sons, Jacob, in 1996 as a Boy Scout Eagle project. Jacob sandblasted and painted and put the gun on a new base.
