The Ohio Northern University symphonic band, Northern Winds, presents its spring concert, “In Ireland,” in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m.

This program is ONU’s first large musical celebration of traditional Irish culture. The program includes the selections “The Wearing of the Green,” “The Girl I Left Behind Me,” “The Irish Washer Woman” and the ever-popular “Danny Boy.”

“Hard Times Come Again No More,” a 19th-century American parlor song by Stephen Foster, continues to be popular in Ireland. The Northern Winds’ performance of the piece features vocalists Kirsten Osbun-Manley, ONU lecturer in music and music theatre, and Adriane Thompson Bradshaw, ONU vice president of student affairs.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a performance of “Celtic Dueling Violins,” which features Nick Saunders, a senior engineering major from West Mifflin, Pa., and Samantha Loutzenheiser, a fifth-year pharmacy major from North Canton, Ohio. The ONU symphonic band is under the direction of Charles N. Bates.

Tickets for this event are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for ONU faculty and staff, and $5 for children and ONU students.
