2001 Ada grad Melissa Retterer in the hand bag business

15 minutes with Melissa Retterer

What year did you graduate from Ada HS?

What activities were you involved in at Ada HS?
I played soccer and ran track.

Where do you live now and what are you doing?
I now live in Columbus near Polaris.  I quit my job as a server over the summer to pursue my handbag business full time.

Please tell us about LuxeFunction, your custom handbag business.
The handbag business I started is called Luxe Function.  I design everything in my line for function first and then for looks. Each aspect is as important as the other.

15 minutes with Abigail Savino: Living in New York and volunteering in New Orleans

By Torie Wright

Start us off by telling us about your college, your major, and your year.
I am a senior in the Biology program at D’Youville College. D’Youville is a teeny tiny private school located in downtown Buffalo, New York. A little bit different from Ada! To get to Buffalo from Ada it is about a six hour drive, so I don’t come home often.

15 with Tori Wyss - wait until you hear about her 6th grade tee-pee experience

What classes are you taking this semester?

Personal finance, psychology, calculus, helper in the media center, Spanish 4, AP English and physics.

You are a senior. What are your plans next year?

I’ve looked at ONU and plan to visit Ohio University. I’d like to major in pre-vet and then go to grad school and become a veterinarian specializing in large animals.

By Torie Wright

You graduated from Ada in 2010 and from the University of Dayton in 2014. How does it feel to now be a high school and college alum?

It feels great! My dad once told me to “enjoy every part of your life.” I loved high school, had a great college experience, and am now having so much fun living in a big city. I have great memories from all my years of schooling and am looking forward to making even better ones post-graduation!

I understand you’re living in Chicago now. What do you do for a living? Do you like your job?

What’s your class schedule this year?

I’m taking Communications, Chemistry 1, Calculus, office volunteer, Spanish 4, AP English, Physics and I end the day with a study hall.

To start things off, tell us the name of your college, what your major is, and what year you are.

I go to VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. I am a flute major here and will go on to be a music teacher. I am currently starting my senior year here.

What was the hardest part about first moving from Ada to Chicago?
