Ada wrestlers 11th in sectionals, 4 advance to district competition

LIMA__The Ada High School wrestling team produced one champion and four district qualifiers from the Div. III Northwest wrestling sectionals at Lima Central Catholic on Saturday, February 28.

The Bulldog matmen finished 11th at the 15-team tournament with 69 points. Four Ada grapplers qualified for the district tournament in Troy next weekend with top-four finishes in their weight class.

There has been concern about measles cases in various parts of the United States and a significant uptick worldwide. According to the CDC, 2025 was the most active year for measles since 1992, and this trend is continuing into 2026. There were 2280 confirmed U.S. cases in 2025, and as of February 12, 2026, there have been 910 confirmed cases. There have been 5 new outbreaks reported in 2026, and 90% of confirmed cases (822 of 910) are outbreak-associated (62 from 2026 outbreaks and 760 from 2025 outbreaks). 

FROM ADA SCHOOLS__Ada T-ball/Softball/Baseball registration is open until March 5.

T-BALL

Players must be 4 by 1-1-26. Games will begin June 1 and run for 4 weeks. The cost will be $40.00.  

SOFTBALL

8U Softball is for 1st and 2nd grade girls. Games will start the week of May 6, with 12 games in the season, and game days will be on Wednesday and Friday. The cost for this is $50.00.

10U Softball  is for 3rd and 4th grade girls. Games will begin the week of May 4th with 12 games and tournaments beginning the week of June 15. Game days will be Monday and tournaments beginning the week of June 15. Game days will be Monday and Wednesday’s.

Ada to play Allen East on Wednesday

CAREY__The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team rode three-point accuracy, tough defense and strong offensive rebounding to soundly defeat Carey 67-42 in Div. VI sectional final play on Friday, February 27.

A 20-5 Ada run to start the third quarter consolidated their 11-point halftime lead, and the Bulldogs rolled to victory from there.

Lara “Donna” (Martin) Price, age 58, of Kenton, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.  

She was born on December 24, 1967, in Lima, Ohio, to Tom Parks and Mary Martin. Donna married Steve Price on May 1, 2004, and he survives in Kenton.

The Ada Board of Education met on Tuesday, February 24 at 6:00 p.m. with Board President Matt Gossman calling the meeting to order. Treasurer Tessa McVey provided a Five-Year Financial Forecast for 2025-2029, which will be covered in a separate article on the Icon.

Ada senior Zack Zimmerman led five Bulldog cagers named to the All-Blanchard Valley Conference boys basketball teams in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.

Zimmerman was named to the 11-man first team all-league squad. The high-scoring senior wing led Ada in points and three-point goals and was one of the top Bulldog rebounders.

Versatile junior Carson Conley and senior wing Kayleb Hickman both earned a spot on the 10-player All-BVC second team. Both were among the team leaders in scoring, rebounds, three-pointers and steals.

FROM FACEBOOK__Dr. Wilson’s GeoAnalytics class met with Lindsay Walden Hollar, Director of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce and DCBA alum, to discuss their semester project. Each semester, students partner with the Chamber to ensure member businesses have accurate, up-to-date Google Maps information, including locations, addresses, phone numbers, hours, and more.

This project makes a real impact by boosting online visibility, increasing customer traffic and supporting local revenue while equipping students with valuable, transferable geospatial and civic engagement skills.
