ONU prof, students present papers at Frontiers in Education conference
ADA — Kenneth Reid, Ohio Northern University director of engineering education, presented “Development of a Classification Scheme for ‘Introduction to Engineering’ Courses” at the 2013 Frontiers in Education Conference in Oklahoma City, Okla., in October.
The completed classification scheme is expected to help better define introduction-to-engineering courses for students who transfer between institutions and for proposals dealing with study in the first year of engineering.
The paper was co-authored by engineering education students David Reeping, a sophomore from Richfield, Ohio; Tyler Hertenstein, a junior from St. Marys, Ohio; Graham Fennell, a junior from Gibsonia, Pa.; and Elizabeth Spingola, a senior from Butler, Pa. The paper discusses the final results of a National Science Foundation (NSF)-sponsored study to develop a classification scheme for first-year engineering courses.
The Frontiers in Education (FIE) Conference is the major international conference about educational innovations and research in engineering and computing. It is an ideal forum for sharing ideas; learning about developments in computer science, engineering and technology education; and interacting with colleagues in these fields.
