15 minutes with Brittney: Maybe she'll be a vet in Ada some day

The weather and school cancellations kept The Icon from talking with Ada High School students in January. We were finally able to get back on track this week. We caught up with Brittney Archer recently in study hall. Here’s part of our conversation.

You are a senior this year at Ada High School. What is your school schedule?
Brittney: Communication, Sociology, Calculus, then two study halls in row, English College Prep, Physics and Anatomy.

What are your plans next year?
I’d like to study Pre-Vet as a major. I’ve looked at programs at the University of Findlay, Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Detroit. I hope to make my decision next week.

How long have you wanted to be a veterinarian?
Since the third grade.

What can you remember from Kindergarten?
I was in Mrs. Smiddle’s class. I remember the color songs and I think I sat beside someone named Tyler, who moved from Ada.

What are your favorite subjects?
Math and science. They are easy.

How about telling us the worse grade you ever received?
On a grade card it was a C in Physics. That’s because of I failed a test. It was a really bad test and the entire class did poorly on it. It was even graded on the curve.

Are you thinking about your prom dress?
Yes. It might be orange or coral. I’ll buy it. My sister, Courtney (2008 Ada grad) and I will go shopping for it.

How about last year’s dress?
I wore one of my sister’s dresses. She got it at a garage sale (laugh).

What’s your all-time favorite movie?
That’s tough, but it’s probably “Beauty and the Beast.” I first saw it when I was 4 or 5. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve seen it. Beast is my favorite character in the movie.

And a movie you’d like to have your money back?
“Get Away.” I saw it in Lima in October. It was pointless. A guy stole a car. That was the plot. I stayed through the whole thing because I paid $7 to see it.

Are you in sports?
Yes. I play basketball and run track. In track I’m in the 100-meter, 200 meter, 4 by 100 and 4 by 200. In basketball my jersey is number 14. That’s my lucky number. My mom’s number – at Ada High School – was 22 and my sister’s number was 4. My sister in junior high also has number 4 as her jersey.

Where do you store your music and how many songs do you have?
My music is on my Ipod and my computer. I have over 250 songs.

What type of music?
Hip-hop, pop, country and some high school musicals.

Which of those types of music might your friends be surprised that you have?
People don’t know I listen to hip-hop. I use it to get pumped.

If you could take any famous person to a dinner in Ada, who would it be and where would you go to eat?
I’d take Taylor Lautner to El Campo.

What would you talk about?
I don’t know if I could talk.

What do you do when you have some free time?
I watch TV or read books.

What shows?
Walking Dead, Teen Wolf, Dance Moms and Pretty Little Liars. I read lots of fiction. Maybe three books a week.

(Bell rings)

Well, thanks for talking with us and good luck next year.
