Girls' basketball: LCC overpowers Ada

LIMA - Host Lima Central Catholic jumped out to a big first period lead and defeated Ada 63-20 in non-conference girls basketball action Thursday evening.
The Lady Bulldogs drop to 1-10 with the defeat, while the Thunderbirds improved to 7-6 after the win.
LCC led 15-4 after one quarter and 31-8 at halftime before taking the second half, 32-12.
Thunderbird post Rosie Williams led all scorers with 27 points on the strength of 12 made field goals. She was the only player on either team in double figures.
"We played the best we have all year (in terms of) being patient offensively," said Ada first-year head coach Morgan Bass. "We probably had the least amount of turnovers all season, too.
"Defensively, obviously Williams killed us but there wasn't much else we could do. She is a pretty good player."
Freshman Kirsten Poling led Ada with seven points. Sophomore Miranda Wills added six markers.
LCC canned 29 field goals, including one three-pointer. The T-Birds converted four of seven foul shots.
Ada sank eight baskets, with one triple. The Lady Bulldogs made three of four free throws.
LCC also won the two-quarter reserve game, 30-7.

Ada (0-5 road) will try to snap a seven-game losing streak when they visit Hardin County rival Kenton (1-7) at noon Saturday.
As for recent common opponents, Ada lost by nine to USV while Kenton beat the Lady Rams 86-20 December 18 to register their first win. The Bulldogs lost big at Bluffton, but the Pirates also defeated the Lady Wildcats 63-46 Dec. 22.
Both schools lost to Riverdale, and Kenton also fell to LCC in their opener, 42-27.
Kenton (0-4 home) lost at home to Defiance Thursday night, 60-48.
"We will do our best and see what happens," said Bass.
