Ada granted $13K for water mapping
The Village of Ada has been awarded a grant of $13,000, among $2.1 million in H2Ohio awards to help public water systems and communities identify and map lead pipes.
Village Administrator Jamie Hall notes, "I am very excited that the Village is one of the 48 selected to be awarded for the H2Ohio Grant. Not a large grant but it does help us to fund the Village GPS Data collection system and GIS mapping project. This project will be essential for us to meet 2024 EPA requirements of identification and mapping of our water distribution system.
Hall provided the Icon with the following description: "The Village of Ada has a signed agreement with Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (RCAP) for a GPS data collection system and a GIS mapping project.
"At the completion of this project the Village will have workable water distribution maps that include hydrants, valves, curb stops, meter pits and house service line information.
"This data collection system will allow the Village to map any known [lead service line] distribution and house service lines. This project will also create a data base system for centralized access to detialed information on distribution and house service lines including the installation date and line meterial ie: plastic, copper, lead or galvenized.
"This project is funded partially by Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA). The total cost of the project will be $26,000. OWDA will pay 50% ($13,000) directly to RCAP, The Village is rsponsible for the remaining 50% ($13,000).
"This project is an essential part of the Village of Ada's ability to map and document any LSL after identification."
