The September 18 meeting of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce featured a presentation from Ohio House candidate Sheila Coressel (Democrat), as well as announcements from the chamber and members in attendance.
PROGRAM
Coressel, who is an Ada resident and Village Council Member, introduced herself and fielded questions. She is originally from rural Defiance County, Ohio, where she grew up on a family farm. The first member of her family to finish college, Coressel has a Ph.D. in education and serves as Director of Pharmacy Student Affairs at Ohio Northern.
The candidate outlined three areas of special interest: the continued funding of public education, access to healthcare and support of small businesses.
CHAMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ada Area Chamber of Commerce director Lindsay Hollar previewed the September 21 Harvest & Herb Festival and three ribbon cutting ceremonies on Sept. 26 for Shafer’s Smoked meats at Eastgate, for Big Brothers Big Sister in Ada and for the grand opening of the Regal Beagle on October 5.
MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Jill Simmons provided an update for the Hardin County Master Gardeners, noting that most events have wrapped up for the season. She also encouraged others to join in the Ada Public Library book club, which meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
Paulina from Studio 419 reported that there are currently 118 students enrolled in fall dance classes and that enrollment is open until October 1.
Gail Altstaetter of Mercantile on Main brought a fall arrangement to decorate the front table at the meeting and noted there was a definite fall uptick in shoppers in downtown Ada.
Denise D’Arca from The Cask Room announced that they are now serving a Chicago-style hot dog and hosting Karaoke on Friday nights. She expects trivia events to start soon.
LeAnn Pryor of Big Brothers Big Sisters expanded on news of the organization coming to Ada. She noted that this will be the office for Hardin County Coordinator Madison Richards.
Ada Public Library director Rhett Grant told members that Zumba is back on the library calendar and that the Ada Kiwanis will hold its annual Trick or Treat Parade on October 28.
The Ada Icon shared that it has a new Media Release Maker to help individuals and organizations submit details about local news.
