OCT 23 MEDIA RELEASE__On October 22, 2025, at approximately 9:11 p.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 8700 block of Lafayette Road (Harrod, Ohio) in reference to a domestic violence situation with shots fired.

When deputies arrived on scene a perimeter was quickly established and commands given for the subject to exit the residence. Spencer Coon (DOB 10/02/02) did exit the residence without incident, was taken into custody, and booked into the Allen County Jail on Domestic Violence, Abduction and probation violation. The victim sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

Rhonda Lee Ryane (Smith), age 73, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by her family on October 22, 2025, at Lima Memorial Hospital. Rhonda was born on December 29, 1951, in Lima, OH, to Charles and Marilyn Klingler Smith.

Reservoir Road in Bath Township is indefinitely closed from Roush Road to Fenway Drive for road repair due to a water line break. 

There will be no emergency access during the closure.

LaVerne Clayton Hughes, age 92, of Kenton, died on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Kenton Nursing and Rehab under hospice care.

He was born on August 4, 1933, to the late Herbert and Vivian (Wineman) Hughes. On May 22, 1958, LaVerne married Charlotte Smith, who survives in Kenton.

LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Lucille (Pratt) Hughes, his sister Shirley (Hughes) Hudson, his son Kevin C. Hughes, and his brother-in-law Cecil A. DeLong.

Merger will create community banking franchise with over $7 billion total assets

OCT 22 MEDIA RELEASE__Farmers National Banc Corp. (“Farmers”) (NASDAQ: FMNB), the holding company for The Farmers National Bank of Canfield (“Farmers National Bank”), and Middlefield Banc Corp. (“Middlefield”) (NASDAQ: MBCN), the holding company for The Middlefield Banking Company (“Middlefield Bank”), jointly announced today the signing of a definitive merger agreement (the “Agreement”) pursuant to which Middlefield will merge with and into Farmers in an all-stock transaction. The Agreement was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies.

MEDIA RELEASE__The Ada community is invited to participate in a special digital fundraiser hosted by McDonald’s on Thursday, October 23, in support of Ada High School Athletics.

As part of the event, 10% of all digital sales placed through the McDonald’s mobile app will be donated to Ada High School. The fundraiser applies to orders placed and picked up at the Ada McDonald’s location, 132 South Main Street.

The Ada Board of Education met on Thursday, October 16 with the attached agenda. Board members heard reports from the superintendent, Julie Simmons, from Treasurer Kim LIght, and from principals Dan Lee and Angela Maag.

The board also discussions about student drop-off and War Memorial Park board meeting attendance.

FROM FACEBOOK__The work of composer Andrew Holdsworth, ONU BFA '25, will be featured in the October 23-26 production of As You Like It at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

Holdsworth, who is now based in New York City, has collaborated with guest director Raphael Emmanuel, composing music to be carried throughout the transitions of the show including 4-part harmonies, a clarinet solo, guitar and percussion, using multiple genres from classical to rock and funk.

Ada Rotary and local businesses to raise funds with sweets

OCT 22 MEDIA RELEASE__The Ada Rotary Club will join Rotary clubs around the world in observing World Polio Day this Friday, October 24, by providing Purple Pinkie Donuts at several local businesses.

These donuts, topped with purple icing, symbolize the purple ink used to mark the pinkie fingers of children who have received the polio vaccine in third world countries.
