Maddie Gossard first Bulldog with over 1,000 career VB assists

The Ada volleyball team celebrated Senior Night in style by sweeping Spencerville in a Northwest Conference mismatch Tuesday on a special Cancer Awareness Night.

The Lady Bulldogs rolled to victory 25-7, 25-16, 25-14 to improve to 12-7 overall, and they stayed first in the NWC at 6-0. The Bearcats fell to 1-13 and 0-6 in the NWC with the defeat.

The Lady Bulldogs have now won 14 consecutive league matches, and are currently riding a four-match win streak.

Thanks for Ada's Volley for the Cure event

Amelia, Ada's little sweetheart, attended the Ada/Spencerville volleyball game on Tuesday to support Volley for the Cure. Over $1,500 was raised for Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, and it was learned that Amelia's cancer remains in remission.

Amelia had the best seat in the house, on the bench next to Melissa Gossard, Ada's successful varsity volleyball coach who is now in her 17th year of coaching in Ada.

Amelia, now 7, is the daughter of Beau and Christina Griffin, who are also parents of two sons: Jude and Willie. The little girl is now a first grader.

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on Tuesday evening against Ohio Athletic Conference-foe Otterbein at Clements Field.

The Polar Bears fall to 8-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the OAC, while the Cardinals improve to 8-2-0, 2-0-0.

Offensively, junior Joseph Schulte (Copley) recorded seven shots to lead the way.

Junior goalkeeper Kyle Dunnavant (Mount Vernon) led the way defensively, posting six saves.

Otterbein was able to take a 1-0 lead in the first half as they capitalized in the 24th minute.

The Cardinals would add to their lead in the 61st minute to seal the 2-0 victory.

Parents of Ada School children and community members are invited to hear Kevin Hines at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the school auditorium. He will talk about thriving and surviving after a suicide attempt. He will have spoken to students earlier that day.

Hines has an inspirational story of treatment and recovery. He is an international speaker, author, and suicide prevention and mental health activist.  He is author of "Cracked, but not Broken: the Kevin Hines Story."

There will be a discussion panel comprised of first responders and mental health professionals after the main speaker.
