New Icon feature: Introducing Ada and Hardin County 4-H members - you probably know them

Meet Dexter Woods

My name is Dexter Woods. I am 10 years old and in the fourth grade.  Last summer was my first year in 4-H. I learned a lot and had fun.

4-H has kids of all ages. My club, Liberty Belles and Boys, used Parliamentary Procedure to make the meetings run smoothly. Everyone had to do a demonstration. Mine was on tying knots for fishing.  We also played games and had snacks at every meeting.

In July I went to 4-H camp at Camp Ohio. I got up early every morning to do the Polar Bear Swim, and I won a certificate.

Other activities at camp included creeking, dancing, archery and trivia. One night there was a campfire.

My project was “Let’s Go Fishing,” and won second in the county. I got to go fishing in a pond, a lake, and a stream. One day I caught two fish on one hook!  For my project I had to learn about different kinds of fish, their bait, how to catch them, and that you need a lot of patience.

If you want to see my project, it will be at Info Night on March 4.  I hope to see you there.

About this feature

Hardin County has a long tradition of 4-H in our community. This year we are celebrating 100 years of National Extension, and 4-H is a big part of Ohio State University Extension.  In Hardin County over 850 youth participate in 4-H each year.

There are 34 different clubs in Hardin County, and youth can choose from over 200 projects to complete. Each week, the Ada Icon features and article written by a 4-H member about their projects and 4-H experiences.

The 4-Her of the week is also brought to you, in part, by OSU Extension Hardin County. To find out more out OSU Extension's many programs and services and 4-H, visit http://hardin.osu.edu.
