Simmons and Oestreich wrap up council terms
Recap of Dec. 16 regular council meeting
By Alec Keller
The Village of Ada Council held its last regular meeting for 2025 on Tuesday, Dec. 16, with all members present and Mayor Dave Retterer presiding.
Council took action on three legislative items, including a resolution for the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Hardin County Commissioners for reimbursement to the County for indigent defense representation at the Hardin County Municipal Court. Information on legislation and other details can be found in the meeting packet HERE.
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
During committee reports, Fiscal Officer Patty Navin provided information about the need for concrete repair for the village’s pool. She explained the village is still looking for a contractor to work on fixing noticeable cracks, recaulking and adding rubberized buffer pads to the concrete. Council approved a proposal for Foamworks Concrete Leveling to complete a $50,000 project at the pool, which will start in the middle of March or early April 2026.
FINANCE
Council approved a proposed policy for the proper use of the Village tax-exempt certificate and for the reimbursement of sales tax, which outlines the circumstances under which reimbursement of sales tax paid by officials or employees may be allowed.
Navin explained that the state auditor requested that the Village have a policy in place to ensure that an individual or employee cannot set up an account under their name using the Village’s sales tax-exempt certificate, even if it is for village business. It must be under the Village’s name, Navin said.
POLICE
Police Chief Alec Cooper relayed that while the tornado siren was completely installed at the Fire Station, there was an issue during the installation of the siren on Grandview Boulevard. As a result, three nearby street lights were disconnected so that a power wire could be repaired.
POLICE CADET HIRING
Council went into executive session for about 15 minutes and returned to approve verbal employment offers by the Chief of Police for two cadets who are currently in training. Offers are conditional on successful training and certification.
CHANGING OF THE GUARD
Jane Napier informed Council that she will swear in the incoming council members, Lucas Rowe and Xander Wells at the next council meeting on Jan. 6, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. .
Departing council members Bob Simmons and Jeffrey Oestreich were presented with plaques recognizing their years of service and dedication to the village. Simmons took a moment during old business to reflect upon his 12 years on council, as well as the accomplishments made during his tenure. In closing, he gave thanks to everyone present.
