The “Made in Ada” water tower emblazoned with the Wilson Sporting Goods logo makes most folks think of NFL football. But from the nearby environs of the Village of Ada water treatment plant, it also serves as a reminder that our tap water is a “Made in Ada” product, too.

On April 16 I joined a group of Ada Community Improvement Corporation members for a tour of the plant led by operator in training Alex Fields. The event was a sort of exam review for Fields, who passed his state certification test last year and will be granted his certificate when he has a full year of plant experience in May.

Have any idea what goes into making water from Ada’s wells safe to drink? I didn’t. Turning on a faucet and making payments are the extent of my personal water experience.

The Arbor Day Foundation has named Ada, Ohio a 2024 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to plant, grow and maintain trees to benefit its community.

To earn Tree City USA recognition, a city must uphold four core standards including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.

In a presentation to Ada Council on March 18, Aspen Energy representatives Jay Sell and Ray Finnegan reported that they do not recommend moving forward immediately with creating electricity and gas aggregation programs due to current high rates.

They referenced a report from electric and gas supplier NRG that shows prices have gone up since aggregation approval by Ada voters in November 2024.

They recommended that council consider legislation that would allow the mayor to sign a contract with same-day notice.
