Balanced offensive attack dooms Bulldogs
By Dusty Donley
Paced by a balanced offensive attack, the Columbus Grove Bulldogs were able to open up a commanding 35-7 first half lead en route to a 56-7 victory over the visiting Ada Bulldogs. The second conference loss in as many weeks drops Ada to 1-2 in the N.W.C. and 2-4 overall.
Columbus Grove scored 28 first half points before Ada junior signal caller Phillip Coulson connected with sophomore Zac Swaney on a 22-yard touchdown. Junior Dylan East’s extra point kick was good, giving Ada their only points of the game with just under three minutes to play in the second quarter.
Grove would add four more rushing touchdowns over the remainder of the contest to give us a 56-7 final score.
Columbus Grove out gained Ada in total offense, as the CG Bulldogs amassed 541 yards to Ada's 113. The balanced attack saw Grove quarterback Blake Reynolds throw for 252 yards, while their stable of runners rushed for 289 yards.
Ada quarterback Phillip Coulson finished the game 11 of 23 for 113 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The majority of his passes went to Zac Swaney as the sophomore wideout finished with 7 grabs for 103 yards and a touchdown.
The Bulldogs host tough N.W.C. foe Crestview this Friday night, as they look to rebound from two straight losses that have seen them outscored 125-23. The Knights (5-1, 2-1 N.W.C.) are coming off a thrilling 50-49 victory over Spencerville. Game time is 7 pm.
