Radiofrequency tumor ablation introduced at Blanchard Valley Health System
MAY 30 MEDIA RELEASE__Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) is now offering radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as a cutting-edge treatment for spine tumors.
RFA is a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes targeted radiofrequency waves to remove or shrink benign and malignant tumors of the spine. This innovative technique can be used as a standalone treatment or in addition to conventional surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.
"Radiofrequency ablation is a valuable tool in our effort to provide patients with more treatment options that are both effective and less invasive,” said Dr. Ogden, a neurosurgeon at Neurosurgical Associates of Northwest Ohio, a division of BVHS. “It allows us to precisely target tumors while reducing the risks and recovery time associated with conventional surgery.”
RFA is often performed in an outpatient setting through small incisions with local anesthetic and minimal sedation. Most patients receiving RFA treatment have only a few days of downtime before returning to normal activities.
