“'If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book.'
―J.K. Rowling
Name: Chloe Noel, Technology Trainer at Hardin County Libraries (including Ada Public Library on Wednesdays)
Chloe’s favorite book is Abarat by Clive Barker. Chloe shares that Abarat “is a wonderful fantasy novel with dark undertones and great illustrations spread throughout.” Clive Barker is often called the “British Stephen King” for his work in horror stories. The American Library Association picked Abarat as one of its Best Books for Young Adults. Abarat is set in Chickentown, Minnesota, a town dubbed the most boring place in the world. Candy Quackenbush, a teenage girl frustrated with her life, draws you into her world and adventures when she stumbles upon a lighthouse at the edge of town. Even if you do not read Abarat, give it a whirl just for a look at the illustrations.
Chloe is now reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Five other books that Chloe recommends are:
• The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling (fiction)
• Series of Unfortunate Events Series by Lemony Snicket (fantasy)
• 1984 by George Orwell (classic fiction)
• Coraline by Neil Gaiman (supernatural fiction)
• I am Brian Wilson by Brian Wilson (non-fiction biography/autobiography)
