McVey wins OAC title, coach passes 1,000th win
NORTON - Former All-American and current senior student-athlete Ian McVey was crowned the 2018 All-Ohio Championships NCAA Division III individual champion as the Ohio Northern men's cross country team put together a strong performance at the Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (33-15 overall) finished the day with 138 total team points to end fourth in the NCAA Division III team standings.
With the team's efforts on Saturday, head coach Jason Maus eclipses the 1,000 career wins mark in men's cross country. He now owns a career record of 1,011-228 (.816) and stands as the all-time winningest men's cross country coach in Ohio Northern school history.
McVey would headline the Ohio Northern weekend efforts, claiming his second consecutive individual title at the All-Ohio Championships after winning the 2017 edition of the race. His time of 24:23.8 now ranks as the second-fastest time in school history for an 8,000 meter course.
Maus stated, "Ian ran really well today - he is a tough competitor. He took a chance and ran a great race."
